Anne Hathaway with her portrayal of Selina Kyle, also known as Catwoman, in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises not only showcased her exceptional acting skills but also left an indelible mark on the iconic Batman franchise.
Despite her excellent job in the film, during one of her interviews for the movie, Hathaway was asked a couple of unrelated and inappropriate questions. She was compelled to gracefully shut it down.
Anne Hathaway Hit Back at Body-shaming Questions
She has been subjected to criticism and questions about her body weight from interviewees throughout her career, and she frequently calls out reporters who ask about how much weight she lost specifically for a particular role.
When Anne Hathaway was giving an interview promoting her film Dark Knight Rises, the actress was subjected to some very disturbing questions and she wasn’t afraid to call the interviewer out.
Hathaway was questioned extensively by Extra TV interviewer Jerry Penacoli about whether she needed to be in “perfect shape” for the film, whether the “form-fitting” suit was comfortable to wear, and how different her diet and training regimen were from Christian Bale’s.
“You are in great shape. You’re always in great shape, but you had to make sure you were in perfect shape for this one, didn’t you?”
To which, Hathaway replied with a smile:
“It wasn’t about being in perfect shape. It was about being able to do the stunts and the fighting perfectly.”
But even after getting a reply in such a respective manner for a question like that, the interviewer went on to ask her about her Catwoman suit, and the actress made up her mind to gracefully shut it down.
On being asked:
“When you found out you were going to play Catwoman… Is there a certain regimen that you put yourself through in terms of the diet, and the workout? What is the feline fitness regime?”
And at that moment, she gave a befitting reply:
“It’s just watch what you eat and get to the gym.” Once again… Jerry Penacoli asked, “Any particular workout?”
“Are you trying to lose weight? What’s the deal, man? You look great. No, no seriously. We have to talk about this. What do you want? Are you trying to fit into a catsuit?”
Fans loved the way she shut the whole conversation with her grace. One wrote, “This makes me like Anne Hathaway so much more! She really did handle those ridiculous questions so well!”
Another comment in the comment section was: “This guy needs to be fired…he is extremely rude and s*xist.”
“I don’t know how she was so patient,” wrote another fan.
The Princess Diary actress has been subjected to numerous uncomfortable and invasive questions over the many interviews and press tours.

And since then the questions have only gotten worse and uncomfortable.
When Anne Hathaway was giving an interview promoting One Day, Canadian film critic and TV/radio personality, Chris Van Vliet started asking her: “It was a couple of days ago we finally saw the first photos of you as Catwoman,” he says, asking, “How do you fit into that suit?”
She replied: “It takes three of us and a lot of lead time.” She continues: “Sit-ups, tricep curls and, you know, bench kicks – I don’t know.”
The interviewer pushed for more: “How much weight have you lost to get into this shape right now?” Hathaway, shocked at the question said, “You did not just ask me that! What a forward young man you are?!”
Nevertheless, Anne Hathaway’s dedication to her craft and her ability to bring depth and authenticity to her characters continue to make her a respected and admired figure in Hollywood.
